FAQ

Concrete resurfacing, answered

Can you resurface cracked concrete?

Yes, provided the slab is structurally sound. The crack is cut out to a clean profile, filled with a flexible repair mortar and bridged with a reinforcing membrane before the overlay goes over the top. A crack that is still actively moving is a different problem, and we will tell you if that is what you have.

How do you know whether my slab can be resurfaced?

A test grind and a moisture check on site. We look for movement under load, live cracking, rising damp and any coating or sealer that has to come off first. That assessment is free and it happens before we quote a finish.

How much does concrete resurfacing cost?

It depends on area and shape, finish choice, how much grinding and repair the slab needs, access, and whether falls need correcting. As a rule of thumb, resurfacing a sound slab costs around half of removing and re-pouring the same area. There is no honest square-metre rate, which is why quotes are on site and free.

How long does a job take?

Most residential driveways are two to three days on site: grind and repair, lay, seal. Cure time is on top of that — foot traffic at 24 hours, vehicles at 72 for most finishes.

How long before we can park on it?

Foot traffic at 24 hours and vehicles at 72 hours for sprayed, stencilled and coloured finishes. Exposed aggregate and stamped work need up to seven days for vehicles. Each finish page states its own figures.

Will it lift or peel in the Queensland sun?

Not off a properly prepared slab. Overlays lift for three reasons: they were laid over a sealed or dirty surface, they were laid over damp concrete, or the slab underneath is moving. All three are preparation and assessment problems, which is where most of our time goes.

Is resurfacing cheaper than new concrete?

Usually, once you count demolition, disposal and the new pour — and it is faster. But it is not always the right answer: a slab that has failed structurally needs replacing, and we will say so.

What slip rating should I ask for?

R11 as a minimum for any external area that gets wet, and R12 for pool surrounds, ramps and driveways on a fall. The rating applies to the sealed surface, so sealer choice matters as much as texture.

Do I need to be home for the quote?

It helps, because the finish gets chosen against your brickwork and render with samples in hand. If you cannot be there, send photos and measurements and we will do a preliminary figure.

What maintenance does a resurfaced slab need?

Hose it, and pressure clean it occasionally at low pressure with a wide fan. Re-seal every three to five years in full sun, five to seven under cover. The sealer is the wearing layer — replacing it is cheap, and it keeps the colour looking as laid.

Which finish is best around a pool?

Anything R11 or better with a texture that is comfortable on bare feet. Washed exposed aggregate with a finer blend, or a stamped finish with rounded relief.

Do you work in wet weather?

No. Overlays and sealers need a dry slab and a dry forecast. A wet week pushes the schedule, which is why we do not book jobs back to back to the hour.

Do you do commercial and strata work?

Yes — car parks, loading aprons, hardstands, shopfront entries and body corporate driveways, including out-of-hours work where the site has to keep trading.

Are you licensed and insured?

QBCC licence 1109935, and fully insured. Both appear on the quote, the licence can be checked on the QBCC public register, and insurance certificates are available on request.

Which suburbs do you cover?

Springfield Lakes and the western corridor, Ipswich, Brisbane, Logan, Forest Lake, Mount Ommaney, Kenmore, Redlands, North Lakes, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba. Further out we quote case by case.
